Manipur: Four militants arrested with arms, ammunition, extortion cash
Imphal: Security forces, while conducting intelligence-based combing, cordon, and search operations, have arrested four militants belonging to various proscribed outfits in Manipur for their alleged involvement in extortion activities, police reported.
All arrests were made along with a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and communication devices over the past 36 hours.
A .38 pistol with two live rounds, concealed under the Heirangoithong bridge area under Singjamei police station, Imphal West, was also recovered during the operation.
Yumnam Tomba Singh (56), an active cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front, the political wing of the banned People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), was captured from the Kakching Police Station Gate checkpoint.
From his possession, the police seized 1 seven-point-six-two LMG, 1 .303 LMG, 1 SLR rifle, 583 live rounds of different calibers, and 1 mobile phone.
Based on his interrogation, another cadre of RPF/PLA, identified as Konjengbam Chandrakumar Singh, also known as Bungcha or Wangba (40) of Takyelpat Government Polytechnic Quarter Type-III, Imphal West district, was arrested from his residence.
Seized from him were 1 9mm pistol with a magazine, 13 9mm live rounds, and 2 mobile phones.
An extortionist associated with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party - People's War Group, Oinam Bishorjit Singh (28) of Thiyam Leishangkhong Leirak, Yumnam Huidrom, under Wangoi PS, Imphal West district, was apprehended from his residence.
A mobile phone and extortion money amounting to Rs. 34,000 were seized from him.
In the final phase of the operation, a cadre of the outlawed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak - Progressive was also arrested from Moreh Gate No. 2 under Moreh PS, Tengnoupal district.
The arrested cadre, Konjenbam Sanathoi Singh (20), is a resident of Langthabal, Imphal West district.
