Manipur: Four insurgents, including woman, arrested; Rs 1 lakh recovered
Imphal: Central security forces and Manipur police arrested four insurgents from different underground groups, including a woman, and recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash during a series of operations in two districts over the past 48 hours, officials reported on Saturday.
The woman extortionist, associated with the outlawed People's Liberation Army, the armed wing of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (PLA/RPF), was identified as Chabungbam Thaibema Devi (49), also known as Medha.
She is a resident of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district and was arrested from her residence.
From her possession, the police seized extortion money amounting to Rs 1 lakh, one mobile handset, and one Aadhaar card.
After her arrest, another cadre of the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak - Progressive (PREPAK Pro), named Wairokpam Atu Meitei, also called Boiton (22), of Phoijing Tera Makhong under Nambol police station in Bishnupur district, was captured from his locality.
A mobile phone was seized from him.
Following his disclosure, an active cadre of PREPAK, identified as Malem Heisnam, also called Ngaiba (21), of Karang Maning Leikai under Keibul Lamjao police station, Bishnupur district, was also apprehended from the Thanga Chingang playground area under the same police station.
In the last operation, the joint team arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba), named Thangjam Tomba Meitei, also known as Bikash (31), of Laingoubi Awang Leikai and presently residing at Wangoo Ahallup Awang Leikai, from the locality of his current residence under Kumbi police station, Bishnupur district.
The police added that the arrestees, along with the confiscated items, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
