Manipur: Five suspected KYKL members apprehended in Tengnoupal
Imphal: Five suspected cadres of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, (KYKL) were apprehended by the Assam Rifles in the operations at the adjoining villages of the southern Tengnoupal district of Manipur with Myanmar on the south.
According to a statement issued by the defence wing on Monday, they were arrested based on specific intelligence.
The team had inputs about the presence of suspected KYKL cadres in general areas of the Zumnum and Khudenthabi Villages, Tengnoupal District, Manipur.
Based on the input, the Assam Rifles team established a permanent Vehicle Check Post.
The team noticed a group of five suspected individuals moving along a foot track on Sunday (August 18, 2404).
Although unarmed, their suspicious behaviour prompted the Assam Rifles team to cordon off the area and confront them, the statement read.
Upon being challenged, the individuals admitted to being KYKL cadres. The apprehended cadres have been handed over to Manipur Police. The KYKL, a valley-based underground outfit is demanding the sovereignty of Manipur once it had enjoyed.
