Manipur: Fire destroys property in Chandel district, Assam Rifles contain fire
Imphal: A fire broke out on Thursday in Paldai Village, Sajik Tampak, in Manipur’s Chandel district, bordering Myanmar on the south, destroying properties worth thousands of rupees, officials said.
The incident occurred around 1100 hours at the tin-roofed semi-pucca house owned by Khuplamlian, a tribal resident of Paldai Village, who was away at the time.
The fire, fuelled by dry weather and the village’s compact layout, destroyed several household items, including books, utensils, tables, and chairs.
The blaze posed an immediate threat to nearby homes and raised fears of a larger catastrophe.
Officials further stated that upon receiving an urgent distress call from villagers, Assam Rifles immediately activated its Quick Reaction Team and rushed to the site with a 6,000-litre water bowser.
Working in close coordination with residents, the troops launched a rapid and disciplined firefighting effort.
The continuous water supply from the bowser proved instrumental in dousing the flames and preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent structures. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
A defence wing statement said the Assam Rifles continues to uphold its role as a dependable pillar of support for local communities.
It added that the successful containment of the fire at Paldai Village reinforces the trust and cooperation between the security forces and the people they serve.
