Manipur extends mobile internet suspension in five valley districts till April 14
Guwahati: The Manipur government has extended the suspension of mobile internet services in five valley districts, continuing restrictions until 2:00 pm on April 14, 2026.
The order issued by the Home Department applies to Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts, which include the state capital Imphal.
The move comes in the aftermath of an April 7 incident in Bishnupur district, where an explosion at a residential house in Moirang Tronglaobi killed two children, a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, and injured their mother. The incident triggered unrest in parts of the valley.
Following the violence, authorities imposed a mobile internet shutdown under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024.
While some wired broadband services were partially restored later under restrictions, mobile data connectivity continues to remain suspended.
The Home Department said the situation is still sensitive and warned that the spread of rumours and misleading content through social media platforms could disturb public order. Officials said strict action will be taken against violations.
The suspension covers all mobile internet services, along with VSAT and VPN connections, while basic landline services remain functional.
