Imphal: The Manipur Excise Department destroyed over 18,124 litres of seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer, wine, and distilled indigenous country (DIC) liquor worth more than Rs 84 lakh.

The action followed an order issued by the Commissioner of Excise, Manipur, and forms part of the state government’s continued enforcement of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991, which bans the manufacture, sale, and consumption of alcohol in the state.

According to an official order issued by the Commissioner of Excise, the seized items were burnt and destroyed at the Excise Headquarters complex in Lamphelpat, Imphal West district, on Saturday.

The confiscated liquor had been seized by excise stations across various districts between October 30, 2025, and January 31, 2026, for being transported or possessed without valid permits.

The destroyed items included 8,466.68 litres of IMFL worth Rs 50,80,008; 9,621.69 litres of beer worth Rs 28,86,507; 31.52 litres of wine worth Rs 12,608; and 4.60 litres of DIC worth Rs 4,22,460.

The seized items were stored in the malkhana (storage facility) located within the Excise Department’s office campus at Lamphelpat.

However, the storage room had become congested due to the accumulation of seized items, making it difficult to store newly confiscated liquor. As a result, the destruction drive was carried out.
