Manipur: Eight suspected militants arrested in counter-insurgency operations
Imphal: Manipur police and security forces arrested at least eight suspected militants affiliated with various underground groups on Sunday.
Two alleged active Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) members, Ayekpam Chingkhu Meitei (28) and Chandam Devajit Singh (19), were apprehended in Bishnupur District.
Police seized Rs 13,500 in cash, a fake Aadhar card, mobile phones, and a vehicle.
In another instance, a KCP (People's War Group) member was arrested. Khoirom Ranjit Meitei (44), involved in recruitment, weapon procurement, and extortion, was arrested in Imphal East District.
Three active KCP (Taibangnganba) members, Soisenba Oinam (22), Lourembam Chingkheinganba (21), and Ningombam Jerit Singh (23), linked to extortion activities in Imphal, were also apprehended.
Three mobile phones were confiscated from them.
Along with them, in Moreh, two Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (Sorepa group) cadres, Samurailakpam Deno Sharma (23) and Taorem Yuhenba Singh (23) were arrested near Moreh Police Station.
All arrested individuals and seized items have been handed over to the relevant police stations for further legal action.
