Imphal: Central security forces and Manipur Police arrested an alleged drug smuggler and an insurgent and recovered contraband drugs and a cache of arms in a series of operations across the state on Friday, officials said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team intercepted a Maruti Ignis (registration number MZ01AD-5474) at a temporary vehicle check post at Suangdoh village under Singnat Police Station in Churachandpur district and arrested its occupant.

The suspect, identified as Siamkhansuan Samte (44) of Gouchinkhup Veng in New Lamka, Churachandpur district, was taken into custody.

Authorities seized 33 soap cases containing brown sugar, a heroin derivative, 40,000 WY (World is Yours) tablets weighing approximately 3.8 kg, the intercepted vehicle, and a mobile phone from his possession.

In a second operation, the joint team apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from the Khongjom Papal Lamkhai area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district.

The cadre was identified as Nepram Bikash Singh alias Manglemba alias Ingocha (30), a native of Langathel Chingkhong Leikai who is currently residing at Waikhong Uyung Khunou under Waikhong Police Station.

A mobile phone was seized from him.

In another operation, security forces recovered a large cache of arms and warlike stores from the Tekcham Maning Ching area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district.

The recovered items included one SMG carbine with a magazine, four bolt-action rifles, two 9 mm pistols with one magazine each, one SBBL gun, one DBBL gun, four 2-inch para bombs, one No. 36 HE hand grenade, ten 12-bore cartridges, and three 9 mm live rounds.

Police have registered three cases, and the arrested individuals along with the seized items have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
