The return of IDPs follows a crucial meeting between Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh and his Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati on Sunday (June 23).

The leaders discussed security concerns in the border districts of Jiribam in Manipur and Cachar in Assam, which have been troubled by recent violence.

Approximately 600 individuals from Jiribam district in Manipur had sought refuge with relatives at Lakhipur in Cachar district of Assam, following the violence on June 06.

The unrest began after the body of Soibam Saratkumar, a 59-year-old Meitei farmer, was found.

The violence resulted in the destruction of approximately 100 houses in Meitei villages, including Borobekra, Harinagar, Lamkoipung, Lamtaikhunou, Sotobekra, Makha Busti, Jirimukh, Leishabithol, and Nunukhal.

Police and central paramilitary forces in Jiribam district of Manipur have been conducting round-the-clock patrols in sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas of the district.
