IMPHAL: During a camera poll gathering for a Congress candidate, chaos ensued when three gunmen unleashed gunfire at Phairenbam Mandhav area in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Saturday (April 13).

Keisham Meghachandra, president of the Manipur Congress, reported the incident to the state's chief electoral officer (CEO).

Demanding fair and peaceful elections for the two Lok Sabha constituencies in Manipur, scheduled on April 19 and 26, Meghachandra, also a Congress MLA, stated that the party is fielding candidates for both Inner and Outer Manipur seats.

Meghachandra, speaking at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal, recounted how the poll meeting for Congress candidate Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam was disrupted by armed assailants, forcing the cancellation of the interaction and camera meeting.

The gunmen allegedly fired four rounds, alarming workers from the Moirang Block Congress Committee who were preparing for the event near the residence of former Moirang MLA P Saratchandra.
