Imphal: The draft of the North Eastern Council (NEC) Vision 2047 has been recalled for corrections after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh flagged an inaccurate portrayal of the state’s tribal communities.

The controversial section, located in Chapter 3 on Art, Culture, and Natural Heritage, incorrectly described the Kukis (Chin) as originating from the Chin State of Manipur.

Following the CM's intervention, the Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, ordered the immediate withdrawal of the draft.

The NEC, established in 1971, is responsible for the development of the eight northeastern states. The NEC Vision 2047 is a blueprint aligned with the overarching India Vision 2047, aiming to transform the region into a developed area.

Chief Minister Singh expressed his disappointment over the error and emphasized the importance of accurate representation of the region's diverse cultural heritage.

The Manipur government has been directed to work closely with the NEC to ensure that the corrections are made promptly.

A formal communication from the Planning Advisor to the Chief Secretaries of all northeastern states announced the withdrawal of the draft, citing the need for rectification.
