Manipur: Body of missing man recovered from Swollen River

Imphal: The body of a 55-year-old man who went missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Imphal West district of Manipur, has been recovered.

The deceased, identified as Takhellambam Ibochouba, also known as Nongban, was found by volunteers of the socio-cultural group Arambai Tenggol on Tuesday from the Abulok riverbed at Lairenkabi village.

Ibochouba, a resident of Lairenkabi located around 20 kilometers from Imphal had gone missing on Sunday afternoon after accidentally falling into the Abulok River. The river, swollen due to continuous heavy rainfall, was flowing with strong currents at the time of the incident.

Following the tragedy, a joint search and rescue operation was launched involving the Arambai Tenggol, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire service personnel, and local volunteers.

Local MLA Heikham Dingo visited the bereaved family and expressed his deep condolences. He also thanked the members of Arambai Tenggol for their crucial support and efforts in the search operation.
