Manipur bans sale and use of injection Mephentermine
Imphal: The Manipur government has banned the sale and use of Injection Mephentermine, citing its illegal sale and harmful effects, especially among youths.
The Directorate of Health Services' Drug Control Administration issued a circular on Tuesday, stating the ban. Y. Ronen Singh, Drug Inspector, informed all chemists, pharmacies, wholesalers, fitness centers, and residents about the ban.
The circular highlights the illegal sale of Mephentermine in some pharmacies and its promotion in certain fitness centers. The government's action follows reports of Mephentermine, an amphetamine-like stimulant, being misused to enhance athletic performance and bodybuilding.
The circular warns against the severe health risks associated with unsupervised use of Mephentermine, including addiction and damage to the human body.
It emphasizes that selling, purchasing, or promoting Mephentermine without a prescription and proper supervision from a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) is a punishable offense.
Mephentermine injection can cause long-term side effects such as hyperactivity, insomnia, emotional distress, confusion, high blood pressure, seizures, flushing, tremors, and hallucinations.
