Manipur: Assamese drug smuggler arrested, methamphetamine worth Rs 10 crore seized
Imphal: A joint team of central and Manipur police apprehended an alleged drug smuggler from Assam and recovered contraband drugs worth approximately Rs 10 crore in the international clandestine trade along the Manipur-Nagaland border.
A vehicle with an Assam registration used to transport the illegal items was also impounded during the operation on Thursday, officials reported on Friday.
The security forces, comprising Assam Rifles, CRPF, and civil police, arrested the alleged drug smuggler, identified as AI Mamun (30), son of Sona Ulla, a resident of VTC-Batabari, PO Markula, PS Baguan, Sub-Division Balijana, District Goalpara, Assam.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint team conducted early-morning frisking and vehicle checks at Phikomei Junction, around 2 km south of Manipur’s Mao Police Station along NH-102, at the Manipur-Nagaland border.
During the operation, the individual was intercepted and arrested, leading to the seizure of suspected World is Yours (WY) tablets (Methamphetamine), a derivative of heroin, weighing approximately 5.669 kilograms, valued at Rs 10 crore in regional black markets.
