Manipur: Army personnel from Jharkhand allegedly dies by suicide

Imphal: A 28-year-old army personnel of the Garhwal Rifles allegedly died by suicide in Bishnupur, Manipur on Sunday.

He died by shooting himself with his service rifle inside the barrak of the Kangvai post under the Phoubakchao Ikhai police station in Manipur's Bishnupur district in the early hours of Sunday. 

The incident took place at around 2 am on Sunday when the other personnel of the unit were sleeping inside the barrack, the police said.

On hearing a single gunshot, security guards and other jawans rushed to the barrack and found him dead.

He was identified as Rahul Negi, 28, a Lance Naik posted in the same district.

The gun used by the killed jawan was recovered from the spot.

There was no suicide note on the spot, police said.

The incident is currently under investigation, the police said.

His body was later deposited at the RIMS Hospital, Imphal for post-mortem.
