Imphal: A team from Thoubal district police station in Manipur's Thoubal successfully rescued Sahit Farukh Jama, 42, the manager of PBS Plywood factory, after he was abducted by unknown men on Friday night.

However, the whereabouts of Nungsithoi Devi, 27, a female worker who was abducted alongside Jama, remain unknown.

The abduction occurred around 11:30 pm on Friday when both Jama and Devi were taken from the factory restroom. Following a swift response, police launched a search operation culminating in the rescue of Jama at around 5:30 pm on Saturday in the Thokchom Mamang hills area within the district.

Sahit Farukh Jama, who hails from Kokrajhar district in Assam, sustained a bullet wound to his left leg during the ordeal.

He received initial treatment at the Thoubal district hospital before being transferred to a medical facility in Imphal for further care.

The motive behind the kidnapping and the shooting remains unclear. Police have registered a case and are actively searching for Nungsithoi Devi, a resident of Keirak village in Kakching district.

The plywood factory is owned by Paonam Brojen, MLA of the Wangjing Tentha Assembly constituency.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the abduction as of now.
