Manipur: 7 KCP-N cadres, 4 others held in Imphal West extortion crackdown
Imphal: Central forces and Manipur police in a joint operation arrested 11 suspected militants, including a woman, accused of extortion activities in the Imphal West district.
Among those apprehended were seven cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba), including a female.
The arrests were made at a hideout in Langol, Imphal West on Monday morning. Security forces recovered two pistols with live ammunition, three vehicles (a Toyota, a car, and a Royal Enfield), and incriminating documents.
Superintendent of Police, Imphal West District, Kshetrimayum Shivakanta, told reporters that the arrested KCP-N cadres were allegedly involved in issuing threats and lobbing a grenade at social media influencer RK Ichalthoi.
In response to concerns about the escalating extortion crisis in the state, Ksh Shivakanta announced that the Manipur police is considering invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against individuals arrested for extortion-related offenses.
Additionally, some significant extortion cases will be handed over to the National Investigating Agency (NIA) for further investigation.
The IPS officer urged parents to counsel their misguided children for the sake of a better future.
