Manipur: 4 KCP-T cadres involved in extortion arrested in Thoubal
Imphal: The Assam Rifles and Manipur police, in a joint operation, apprehended four alleged cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Taibanganba), a group involved in extorting the general public and shopkeepers of the southern Thoubal district for raising party funds.
A substantial cache of weapons, including four firearms and rounds of ammunition, and communication devices, including four mobile phones, were recovered during the operation.
According to an official statement, acting on a tip from different sources that some anti-socials were trying to extort money from the general public in the Langthabal Khunou area of the Thoubal district, the joint team of the Assam Rifles and Thoubal district police commandos launched the operation.
The operation ended with the arrests of four insurgents associated with the KCP-T, the statement issued by the Director General of Assam Rifles stated.
However, the names of the arrestees and the specific location of the counterinsurgency campaigns were withheld for security reasons.
The statement added that the arrested individuals, along with the confiscated weapons, have been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings.
