IMPHAL: Thirty-four armed insurgents from the United National Liberation Front, led by Pambei (UNLF-P), surrendered to the Assam Rifles while trying to enter Manipur from Myanmar.

The insurgents, equipped with automatic weapons, were compelled to seek refuge in Manipur after facing heavy resistance from the rival People's Defence Force (PDF) within Myanmar.

According to officials, the group encountered intense firing from the PDF, making their journey perilous.

During their escape, vigilant units of the Assam Rifles intercepted them at the border.

The insurgents chose to surrender along with their weapons to the Assam Rifles.

They were subsequently handed over to the Manipur police.

The surrendered cadres are believed to be from the valley-based UNLF-P, which had entered a ceasefire agreement with the central government and the Manipur government on November 29, 2023.
