Imphal: In ongoing anti-narcotics operations, law enforcement agencies of the Indian Union detected three additional locations where illegal poppy cultivation was taking place clandestinely in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Thursday.

The Kangpokpi district is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community, and police reported that many residents engage in illegal cultivation to earn quick money.

The operations, carried out by a joint team of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF, resulted in the detection and destruction of illegal poppy cultivation in Songlung village under Kangpokpi Police Station.

Reports stated that the team identified three separate areas of poppy cultivation, covering a total of 10 acres in the interior of Songlung village.

The entire 10 acres were destroyed by uprooting the plants. Additionally, three storage/farm huts and other articles used in cultivation were also destroyed and burnt.

The reports added that with these renewed operations, a total of 200 acres of illegal poppy plants—potentially valued at around Rs 95 lakhs—have been destroyed in the district since November 1, 2025.
