Indian Army, Manipur police foil smuggling bid, dismantle bunker
Imphal: In a joint operation ahead of Independence Day, the Indian Army and Manipur Police have foiled a smuggling bid and dismantled an illegal bunker along the porous Indo-Myanmar border.
Security forces launched an operation on Monday in the Saikul village area of Churachandpur district, bordering Myanmar.
The operation yielded significant results with the seizure of a 9mm pistol, a 12-bore long-range rifle, two modified long-range mortars (Pompi), two grenades, ammunition, and incriminating materials.
In a separate operation in the Chandel district, near Border Pillar 67, the joint team recovered 20 soap cases suspected to contain brown sugar, 100 detonators, and a five-meter safety fuse.
An unauthorized bunker was also dismantled in L. Phainom village, Churachandpur district.
The recovered contraband and materials have been handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal action.
