Encounter breaks out at Manipur-Myanmar border, 4 injured
Imphal: An encounter broke out between the Indian security forces and armed men who possessed sophisticated weapons at the borders of Manipur with Myanmar to the south causing reportedly injuring at least four jawans at around 4:30 am on Friday, reports said.
The reports stated that some unknown armed men suspected to be the insurgents, mainly operating along the Manipur-Myanmar border, attacked a group of Assam Rifles personnel at the border pillar numbers 85 and 86 near the Saibol and Maringthel villages in Tengnoupal district.
Four jawans of the Assam Rifles who were deployed along the border sustained injuries when the armed men attacked with bombs and gunfire at around 4:30 am on Friday. There were fierce encounters for about half an hour between the two groups.
However, the armed men managed to escape from the scene and crossed the Myanmar border when the additional security forces were rushed to the spot. The injured personnel whose names were withheld at the time of the filing of this news report were given medical treatment. Details awaited.
