CRPF ASI from Assam dies by suicide in Manipur
Imphal: A 53-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) died by suicide on Friday in Manipur's Jiribam district, police said.
Prasanna Kumar Deka, hailing from Manakuthi village in Assam's Kamrup district, was part of the 20th Battalion, C-Company, CRPF, deployed in Jiribam, said a police official.
He was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head inside the Jiribam police station's toilet around 2 pm, the official said.
Police recovered Deka's service AK-47 rifle at the scene. While the motive behind the extreme step remains unclear, authorities have ruled out foul play. No suicide note was recovered.
An investigation into the incident is underway, and a case has been registered at Jiribam police station, the official added.
Deka's body has been sent to the mortuary of Jiribam District Hospital for post-mortem.
