Guwahati: Manipur Congress Legislature Party leader Okram Ibobi Singh on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s rule at the Centre and in the state was temporary and would ultimately be decided by voters.

Addressing the Congress party’s 140th foundation day programme in Imphal, the three-time former chief minister expressed confidence that peace and social harmony would return to Manipur with the Congress regaining political strength.

“BJP is not permanent. How long can they rule and dictate terms? Elections will give the answer,” Singh told party workers.

He alleged that Manipur’s administrative and financial condition had sharply declined over the past three years, claiming several government departments had become ineffective and the state’s finances were nearing collapse.

Singh said a stable, progressive and harmonious society was possible only if the Congress returned to power both at the Centre and in the state, adding that peace and coexistence in violence-hit Manipur depended on the party’s revival.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Keisham Meghachandra also addressed the gathering, calling on party leaders and workers to maintain discipline and remain committed to the Congress ideology.

Meghachandra further asserted that only a Congress-led government could restore peace and accelerate development in Manipur, and expressed confidence that the party would return to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.
