CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh reviews plan to promote integrated farming system in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting to push the Integrated Farming System (IFS) across the state. The meeting took place at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

The review focused on harnessing Manipur’s agricultural and horticultural potential to revive the state’s economy. The Chief Minister stressed the need for diversified and sustainable farming practices.

He directed the concerned departments to actively promote alternative crop cultivation and allied agricultural activities. In particular, he asked officials to focus on the hill districts to improve farmers’ incomes and strengthen rural livelihoods.

During the meeting, officials also discussed the state’s potential to export agricultural and horticultural produce. They identified value addition and stronger market linkages as key drivers of growth.

Furthermore, the deliberations explored ways to integrate farming with animal husbandry, fisheries and horticulture. The aim is to ensure better use of resources and reduce risks linked to climate change and market fluctuations.

The Chief Minister said integrated farming can act as a catalyst for long-term economic revival. He added that the approach can generate employment, boost productivity and promote sustainable development in both hill and valley regions.

Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation K. Devdutta Sharma, Director of Agriculture Peter Salam and other senior officials attended the meeting.
