Imphal: Senior BJP leader B.L. Santosh met with the party’s legislators in Manipur on Wednesday to discuss strategies for forming a new state government.

The meeting, held at the BJP office in Imphal, included over 20 MLAs and was also attended by the party’s Northeast coordinator, Sambit Patra.

Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told reporters that the legislators and central leaders discussed key issues such as challenges faced by internally displaced persons, maintaining smooth movement along national highways, addressing state grievances, and strengthening the party’s organisational structure in Manipur.

Singh added that the meeting also focused on forming a popular government.

The central leaders assured MLAs that a government supported by the people would assume office soon.

BJP spokesperson Kh. Ibomcha said the party is actively working to establish the new government. “We will form the government as soon as possible,” he stated, highlighting the party’s commitment to restoring political stability in the state.

Several party MLAs emphasized different aspects of the discussions. Sapam Ranjan Singh noted that the meeting aimed to reinforce the party’s organisational strength.

Tongbram Robindro said the legislators strategized for a strong comeback in the 2027 assembly elections and planned to engage with constituents at the local level.

“The central leaders understand public sentiment and expectations,” Robindro said, acknowledging that some people remain dissatisfied with the party.

Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh amid criticism over his handling of the ethnic violence in May 2023.
