Around 100 trucks stranded at Manipur-Nagaland border due to protests by Naga groups

Imphal: Approximately 100 goods-laden trucks traveling from Guwahati to Imphal via Dimapur on National Highway 102 have been stranded at Mao along the Manipur-Nagaland border, for the second consecutive day.

The Naga People's Organization (NPO) and other voluntary organizations intensified their protests on Sunday, restricting all commercial vehicular traffic beyond Senapati district headquarters. This follows a 24-hour total shutdown imposed in Senapati on November 2.

The NPO is demanding justice for two Naga Paomei men who were assaulted by alleged members of the Aranbai Tenggol, a local socio-cultural organization in Manipur. The incident, which occurred in Lamsang in Imphal West on October 31, involved theft and physical assault.

While police have arrested two suspects and are investigating the case, the ongoing agitation continues to disrupt transportation and commerce in the region.

To mitigate the impact, authorities have ensured the movement of 48 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-102.

Strict security measures, including checkpoints and security convoys, have been implemented in vulnerable areas to safeguard the movement of essential supplies.
