Alleged drug peddler arrested along Manipur-Nagaland border; opium, bike recovered
Imphal: A joint team of central and state forces arrested an alleged drug peddler along with opium, his bike, and mobile phone as part of a major drug trafficking bust in Manipur's Senapati district, bordering Nagaland to the north, on Thursday.
He was accused of being part of a racket that sourced opium from Manipur to sell in Nagaland, according to police reports issued on Friday.
The arrested person was identified as Subash Tamang (20), son of Man Bahadur Tamang, a resident of Sadim Nepali, under the Senapati police station.
The arrest and seizure were made during frisking and checking at T. Khullen Naka Point by combined teams of D/78 CRPF, B/109 CRPF, 16 Assam Rifles, and two Women Police Constables from the Women Police Station, Senapati, under the command of the Additional SP (NH-2) Senapati.
The reports further stated that the following items were seized from his possession: 10 containers of Gobind Tobacco containing opium, weighing 334 grams including the weight of the containers; one mobile phone; and one TVS NTORQ 125 Race Edition bike, bearing Regn. No. AS-31-A-5923, along with the key.
The report added that a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, has been registered. The arrested person and seized items are now in police custody for further legal proceedings.
