Manipur: Youth held with bombs along Indo-Myanmar border

Imphal:  Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, security forces apprehended a teenager with two explosives and a cache of live ammunition during intensified anti-insurgency operations along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur.

Identified as Ngashingpam Siro (18), a resident of Moirengthel village under Tengnoupal Police Station in Tengnoupal district, Manipur, the youth was arrested during operations spanning the past 36 hours.

Security forces recovered two hand grenades and five 7.62 mm live rounds from his unauthorized possession, officials disclosed on Monday.

In a separate operation based on specific intelligence input, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police commandos conducted a joint search operation in the Uchiwa area of Mayang Imphal, Imphal West district on Sunday.

This operation yielded a significant haul, including a Carbine Machine Gun, a 7.62mm Self Loading Rifle, two Single Barrel Guns, a Pistol, four grenades, ammunition, and war-like stores.

The apprehended individual and the recovered items have been handed over to Manipur police stations for further legal proceedings, said an AR official.

Given the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for two parliamentary constituencies slated on April 19 and 26, security measures have been escalated in sensitive locations in Manipur.
