Imphal: The Manipur government has issued a warning to approximately one lakh state government employees who have been skipping work hours due to the ongoing communal violence.

In an official memorandum, Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi stated that the "No work, No pay" principle will be strictly applied to those who are not fulfilling their duties and responsibilities.

He further directed all Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners, and Heads of Departments to submit reports detailing the actions taken by March 13, 2024.

This directive comes amidst reports of several government officials failing to report to their original place of posting, citing the prevailing law and order situation as justification.

Joshi added that such behaviour constitutes a "dereliction of duty" and violates the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964.

"The principle of 'No work, No pay' shall be applied to any official who has not reported to the authority to whom they have been attached, or who are not attending such offices, without a valid and accepted reason," the Chief Secretary stated.

He further instructed Deputy Commissioners and Heads of Departments to maintain attendance registers for the attached officials.
