Manipur violence: Residence of Kuki MLA attacked by armed miscreants

Churachandpur: The residence of Chinlunthang Manlu, the sitting Kuki MLA from Singngat assembly constituency in Manipur, was attacked by unknown miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons in the early hours of Thursday (July 04).

The attack occurred at around 12:50 am of Thursday (July 04) at the MLA’s home at Zenhang Lamka in Churachandpur district of Manipur.

Upon receiving the report, Manipur police personnel quickly arrived at the scene, confirming that several shots had been fired at the Kuki MLA’s residence.

The assailants managed to cause damage to the residential walls and left behind five empty AK-47 cartridges, which were recovered by the Manipur police personnel.

After carrying out the attack, the armed men fled under the cover of darkness.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported.

This incident marks the first major attack on the residence of Chinlunthang Manlu, a Kuki MLA, following his boycott of the two sessions of the Manipur legislative assembly.

The Manipur legislative assembly consists of 10 Kuki MLAs, including:

• Haokholet Kipgen of Saitu AC

• LM Khaute of Churachandpur AC
• Paolienlal Haokip of Saikot AC
• Chinlunthang Manlu of Singngat AC

All ten Kuki MLAs boycotted the sessions of the Manipur assembly, demanding separate administration for the Kuki community since the outbreak of violence in the state on May 3, 2023.

The attack on MLA Manlu’s residence adds to the growing tension and unrest in Manipur.

Meanwhile, authorities in Manipur are conducting an investigation into the attack to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
