Manipur violence: Former rebel shot dead in Bishnupur

IMPHAL: A 45-year-old man, identified as Nongmaithem Julon, also known as Bimolchand, was shot dead by unknown assailants at his farmhouse in Potsangbam Maning paddy field under Bishnupur district of Manipur on Wednesday (June 26).

Julon, a former member of an underground outfit, was working at his farm around 10:30 am when the incident occurred.

The assailants shot the man twice in the head, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Manipur police and forensic experts arrived at the location to conduct preliminary investigations.

The body of the deceased was subsequently transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for a post-mortem examination.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear.

However, locals informed the police that Julon had previously been associated with an underground organization.

Manipur police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations to determine the reasons behind the killing and to identify the perpetrators.
