Churachandpur: A series of violent incidents involving firearms has rocked the Churachandpur district in Manipur late on Wednesday (July 03) night, prompting urgent calls for law enforcement to apprehend the perpetrators and enforce justice.

The violence began at approximately 8:40 pm on Wednesday (July 03) when armed miscreants broke into the home of Muan Tombing, the secretary of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF).

The attackers kicked down doors, dragged Tombing’s wife across the floor, and snatched his daughter's phone.

Tombing was not at home during the attack, according to a statement issued by ITLF on Thursday (July 04).

Around the same time, another group of armed miscreants kidnapped Kanaan Veng, the president of the Young Paite Association (YPA).

Veng was allegedly subjected to extensive interrogation and severe torture before being released.

The violence escalated at approximately 1:00 am on Thursday (July 4) when armed miscreants, believed to be part of the same group, opened fire on the home of Singngat MLA Chinlunthang in Zenhang Lamka, Manipur.

Around the same time, shots were also heard near the home of Henlianthang, the president of the Vaiphei People's Council (VPC), on Red Cross Road in Lamka.

The ITLF has strongly condemned these violent acts, stating that the actions of the armed miscreants disrupt the town's tranquillity and instil panic and terror among the residents.

“We will be compelled to retaliate if the perpetrators do not cease their actions,” warned the ITLF, urging law enforcement agencies, including the Assam Rifles and the Manipur police, to take immediate action and necessary precautions to prevent further harassment of the town's residents.
