IMPHAL: In the ongoing violence in Manipur between two communities in the strife-torn Manipur, since May 3, 2023, a total of 12 security personnel lost their lives—9 from state forces and 3 from central personnel—while 167 others sustained injuries—98 from state forces and 69 from central forces.

This was informed by Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.

The government deployed over 80,000 state and central forces to maintain peace.

Additionally, in response to a question by Opposition Congress MLA K Meghachandra Singh, Manipir CM Biren Singh stated that eight FIRs have been registered regarding intense mob violence in Churachandpur District Headquarters on February 15, with two FIRs handed over to the CBI for further investigation based on video evidence implicating armed militants.

Furthermore, the suspension of Head Constable Siamlalpaul of Churachandpur District Police, following a viral video allegedly showing him with an armed group on February 14, 2024, led to around 400 irate individuals attempting to storm the District police office.

The ethnic violence between the Kukis and Meiteis has resulted in the loss of 219 lives to date, as per official reports.
