Guwahati: Two cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party - Military Council Progressive (KCP-MCP) were apprehended in a joint operation by Manipur Police and central forces.

The arrests were made on Tuesday during a cordon and search operation conducted in Manipur's Imphal East district.

The apprehended cadres, identified as Nongmaithem Rohit Singh (23) and Ronaldo Laishram (21), both residents of Imphal East, were found hiding in a local location. During the search, authorities recovered two mobile phones and several demand letters.

The arrested cadres were involved in extorting money from government officials, businessmen, and villagers in the Imphal East district over the past few months.

The recovered demand letters are believed to be evidence of their extortion activities.

The arrested individuals, along with the seized items, have been handed over to the relevant police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
