Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), a powerful tribal body in Manipur's Kangpokpi district, has called for a 24-hour shutdown in the district on March 4.

This action comes in protest against the Manipur state legislative assembly's recent resolution to abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) with all Kuki-Zo militant groups.

The shutdown will begin at 10:00 AM on March 4th and will continue until 10:00 AM on March 5th.

The assembly passed the resolution on February 29th, during the second day of the 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

However, in a statement issued by the CoTU’s Information Secretary, Thangtinlen Haokip states that Manipur Assembly’s resolution to abrogate the SoO with the two umbrella organizations of the Kuki militant groups, the United People’s Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organization, (KNO) is of “Communalised and against peace.”

The committee also decided to organize a public rally on March 4 to demonstrate resentment over the alleged “communalised and derogatory resolution.”
