Manipur: Teenage girl commits suicide over betrayal in love

Imphal: A teenage girl committed suicide by consuming poison after she found out the secret of her boyfriend having relation with another girl in Manipur’s Andro village in Imphal East district.

S Premila, 18, a college-going student, and a resident of Andro Senapati village under the Andro Police station reportedly consumed pesticide at around 8 am on Tuesday.

She was rushed to the state government-run Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, Imphal East district on Tuesday.

She lost her life despite doctors giving the best treatment to save her at the hospital, the police said.

Based on the complaint that the deceased girl had had romantic relations with one Sarunbam Dinesh, 20, police arrested the lover.

Dinesh is a resident of Singjamei Mayengbam Leika in Imphal West district.

Interrogations revealed that Dinesh’s marriage date with a girl has been fixed.

Based on that information, Premila might have taken the drastic step, the police said.

A post-mortem conducted by the police on Wednesday confirmed suicide and the body was handed over to the girl’s parents in Andro village, about 20 km from Imphal, the police added.
