Imphal: A teenage girl from Manipur who was allegedly lured under the pretext of giving employment in Hyderabad, Telangana was rescued from Belgaum in Karnataka.

This was stated by the Director of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur at Imphal on Saturday.

After receiving missing information regarding the teenage girl filed an FIR by her parents with the Thoubal police station of Manipur, a team led by K Saroja Devi, Deputy Director (Child Protection), Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur, with the assistance of Karnataka Police successfully rescued her in Belgaum.

Manipur government started an investigation in this regard after receiving a call from an executive member of the Manipur Students Association Delhi (MSAD) on April 30, 2024, alerting to the plight of a teenage girl from Salungpham village of Manipur's Thoubal District at a location in Belgaum, Karnataka.

A youth from Imphal East district reportedly lured the minor girl to provide a job in Hyderabad where the investigating team in this proceeding unfounded a complex situation in which both of them with mutual consent worked in a restaurant there.

Reports said following attempts to rescue the girl, she was forced to leave the location and took shelter in Belgaum.

In this situation, a Zero FIR was filed against the said youth accusing him of various offences, including enticing and detaining Daisy with criminal intent.

The youth is giving slips to the dragnets spread by the police so far, officials said.

The rescued girl was handed over to her parents on Friday.

The Director of Social Welfare in the light of this incident appealed to the general masses to inform the Child Welfare Committee of the Manipur Government when sending children outside the state.

He also emphasized the importance of combating human trafficking through coordinated efforts among various stakeholders.
