Manipur: Six KCP-PWG cadres arrrest for extortion in Imphal East
Imphal: Six suspected cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party, People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) were arrested in an operation conducted by a joint team of the Manipur Police Anti Extortion Squad and Imphal East District police.
Three vehicles and Rs 3.88 lakhs in cash were recovered during the operations launched on Tuesday in and around the JNIMS hospital and Porompat areas in Imphal East district.
A police source stated that the surprise raid cum operation was conducted following intelligence inputs that a large number of individuals were involved in illegal arms transactions and extortion.
They were found extorting the general public, hospitals, private firms and government offices.
The operation lasted around two hours and ended with the arrest of six involved in the ruthless extortion drives of the outfit on Tuesday.
The arrested persons were later identified as Oinam Abung Meitei (31), Leimapokpam Hari Meitei (53), Yaikhom Lukhoi Singh @ Inao (32), Oinam Bijen Meitei (25), Athokpham Irengbam (O) Inaobi Devi @ Nanao (38) and Moirangthem Ichan Devi (20).
Further, the following items were recovered from their possession: one four-wheeler, two two-wheelers, six mobile phones, a sling bag, two wallets, two ID cards and Rs 3,88,950.
The report added that the arrested persons and confiscated items are now in police custody for further legal action.
