Manipur: Security forces foil infiltration bid, seize arms, drugs, and cash

Imphal: A joint operation by Indian security forces and Manipur police foiled an infiltration attempt across the Indo-Myanmar border, resulting in the seizure of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, opium and Rs 4.8 lakhs in cash over the past 24 hours.

Acting on intelligence inputs, a combined team of Manipur police and CRPF personnel raided an abandoned hut in Yaibu village, situated between Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The operation yielded a substantial haul of arms, including 3 AK rifles, magazines, 32 hand grenades, 11 mine bombs, 2 detonators, and numerous live rounds of ammunition. The recovered items have been transferred to the Bishnupur district police for further investigation.

This operation was prompted by information obtained from two alleged CKLA cadres apprehended by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur police on Monday.

The vigilant security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt across the Indo-Myanmar border, apprehending the two cadres and seizing a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and other warlike stores on Monday.

The apprehended individuals were identified as members of a non-Suspension of Operation (SoO) group named Chin Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA).

The seized items included six weapons, including AK 47, INSAS rifle, MQ assault rifle, Sniper rifle, and M16 Assault Rifle, along with various ammunition and other warlike stores.

Additionally, approximately 2.5 kg of opium, Rs 4,86,500 in cash, and various other items were recovered from the apprehended individuals. The cadres and seized items have been handed over to Sangaikot Police Station in Manipur for further investigation.
