The imposition of Section 144 effectively banned the assembly of five or more persons and the carrying of offensive weapons in the southern Serou and Sugnu areas of Waikhong sub-division.

This jurisdiction falls within the revenue areas of Kakching district, extending into the interdistrict regions of Kakching, Churachandpur, and Chandel in Manipur.

The order, issued on Friday (Jube 28), comes into immediate effect due to concerns over potential breaches of peace, threats to public tranquility, and significant risks to human lives and properties in the affected areas.

The prohibition is set to last for three weeks, commencing at 12:00 PM on June 28.

According to the official notification, the order specifically prohibits:

  1. The assembly of five or more persons at one place if it is likely to turn unlawful.
  2. The carrying of firearms, swords, sticks, stones, or any sharp-edged objects that can be used as lethal weapons.
  3. Any unauthorized or illegal construction activities in the specified region.
  4. The flying of drones without written permission from the concerned authorities.

Exemptions to this order include government agencies, functionaries, and security forces involved in law enforcement and the provision of essential services.
