Imphal: Security forces apprehended on Saturday a cadre of the banned Revolutionary People's Front's (RPF) armed wing, the People's Liberation Army (PLA), near Imphal airport in Manipur's Imphal West district.

A statement issued by Manipur police on Sunday revealed that the arrest came after receiving specific intelligence about PLA/RPF cadres taking shelter in Changangei Ucheckon, Imphal West, under the Singjamei police station's jurisdiction.

A joint team of police and central paramilitary forces launched a meticulously planned operation at around 7:00 am on Saturday. The thorough search, lasting approximately three hours, led to the successful apprehension of Takhellambam Inao Singh (39), alias Joysing/Ningthiba, a resident of Changangei Ucheckon.

Singh was reportedly involved in extortion activities within the Imphal area. Security forces recovered one 9mm pistol with a magazine containing seven rounds, two mobile handsets with four SIM cards, one black wallet containing Rs. 1,700 and one Aadhaar card.

The arrested cadre and the confiscated items were handed over to the concerned police station for further investigation and legal proceedings, the statement concluded.
