Manipur: Proscribed PREPAK observes its 47th foundation day

Guwahati: The outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) – the political wing of the banned Red Army - observed its 47th foundation day on Wednesday.

With participation of people from both the hills as well as the valley of Manipur, functions were held at the party’s central headquarters, Red Army’s battalions, tactical headquarters, base areas, transit camps and training centres.

A revolutionary gun salute was given in honour of the martyrs.

A statement, issued on the occasion by interim council chairman of PREPAK Aheiba Angom, alleged that the Kuki-Zos enjoy the patronage of external forces.

It also alleged that these external forces have been actively supporting the Kuki-Zo militants to confront the revolutionary troops in Western South East Asia (WESEA) region.

“The government has provided the Kuki-Zo terrorists with unconditional support, including increasing their numbers and supplying arms and ammunition. Fearing international criticism for human rights violations and breaches of international law in a confrontation, India has discreetly engaged in a proxy war using the Kuki-Zo mercenaries,” Angom alleged in the statement.

Notably, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) declared the PREPAK and its armed wing Red Army as “unlawful associations” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), publishing a notification in this regard on November 13, 2023.

The PREPAK - formed on October 9, 1977 - is an armed insurgent group in Manipur demanding a separate and independent homeland.

It further maintained that the outfit would continue to fight against imperialist India till achieving the Red Army’s goal of establishing a sovereign, developed and egalitarian society in Kangleipak (Manipur).
