Imphal: The Manipur Police will hand over two accused, allegedly involved in the abduction of a Manipur resident, to their Assam counterpart.

The Jiribam police of Manipur on Wednesday arrested two persons, alleged to be involved in the abduction of one Md Saiyur Uddin, who is a resident of Kashimpur Balijuri village in Manipur’s Jiribam district that shares an inter-state border with Assam.

Saiyur Uddin was reportedly abducted on the evening of October 21, 2024 from Kapakhal village under Lakhipur subdivision in Assam’s Cachar district.

He, however, was rescued in an operation by Manipur’s Jiribam police in the wee hours of October 22.

During the operation, two individuals, allegedly involved in the abduction of Saiyur Uddin, were arrested.

The duo was later identified as Salim Uddin (24), a resident of Lalpani Part-Il village in Jiribam district of Manipur, and Soriful Islam (26), hailing from Akbarpur village in Karimganj district of Assam.

Though the case of abduction has been registered in Jirighat Police Station under Lakhipur subdivision of Assam’s Cachar district, the arrested duo is currently in the custody of Manipur’s Jiribam police.

In a coordinated effort, the Manipur Police will now hand over the accused duo to their Assam counterpart, as the alleged abduction took place under the latter’s jurisdiction.
