Imphal: Manipur police recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition during an operation conducted in the northern part of Imphal East district on Tuesday, according to an official statement.

Acting on intelligence input, suggesting the presence of weapons, a team led by Superintendent of Police K. Meghachandra Singh conducted a targeted search operation in the vicinity of Mantripukhri Bazaar. The operation involved cordoning off the area and meticulously searching for hidden contraband.

The search proved fruitful, leading to the discovery of two 9 mm pistols and over 500 rounds of live ammunition abandoned or concealed within a bush near the Mantripukhri Bazar Community Hall and auto-rickshaw parking area.

Despite recovering the weapons, authorities haven't reported apprehending any suspects at this time. The seized firearms and ammunition have been taken into police custody for further investigation.
