Manipur police launch probe into fake audio of CM N Biren Singh

Imphal: Manipur Police have initiated a suo motu investigation into the circulation of a fabricated audio clip purportedly featuring Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The Cyber Crime branch of the Manipur police has taken cognizance of the matter, considering its potential to disrupt the already fragile peace in the state.

According to an official statement, the police became aware of the audio clip on August 7, 2024, when it began circulating widely on social media platforms.

The Chief Minister's office subsequently lodged a complaint, alleging that the doctored clip was a deliberate attempt to undermine the state government's peacebuilding efforts.

The police have warned that the dissemination of such fake content could exacerbate the ongoing ethnic violence and have serious consequences.

They are committed to identifying those responsible for creating and spreading the false audio clip.
