Imphal: In a successful operation conducted over the past 36 hours, a joint team of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives in two villages within Manipur's Kakching district, officials said on Monday.

Acting on specific intelligence about the presence of weapons in the general area of Uthagpopki village near Sugnu, the joint team launched a cordon and search operation.

The operation yielded a significant haul, including four grenades, two mortars, ammunition, and other war-like stores.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the team conducted a separate operation in Moltingcham village, also located in Kakching district.

This operation resulted in the recovery of several weapons, including four unexploded grenades, two helmet mines, two improvised explosive devices, a radio handset, assorted ammunition, smoke shells, bulletproof vests, and a leg anklet.

While no arrests were made during the operations, the seized items were handed over to the concerned police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.
