Imphal: A sit-in protest was held on Tuesday at Top Khongkhong Kshetri Awang Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal East district to condemn the brutal mob lynching of a driver.

The Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Sangomsumpham Sahir alias Sana organized the protest and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the killing of driver Sahir.

On October 19, 2023, two drivers, Shahir and Abir Khan of Sora village in Thoubal district, along with two women, were brutally attacked by a mob in Takhel village, Imphal East district.

The mob falsely accused the drivers of carrying goods for the Kukis, one of the groups involved in the ongoing communal violence in Manipur.

The four victims were rushed to Raj Medicity Imphal, where Sahir succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon.

Md Moyamayum Rafi Khan, the JAC convenor, stated that the body of Sabir would not be claimed until their demands were met.

He also warned of intense agitations with like-minded CSOs, clubs, organizations, and Meira Paibi until justice is served.
