Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday said notifications issued by Nagaland and Mizoram in regard to immigrants may have an impact on the state.

CM Singh said he has asked the officials of Manipur to curb illegal immigrants from entering the state.

The Chief Minister said a notification issued by the Nagaland government states in determining who are legal settlers the base year for several communities as 1963 whereas 1940 for another.

CM Singh said the Mizoram government also issued an order stating all who came to Mizoram post 1951 cannot purchase land in the state.

He said these developments in the neighbouring states might have an impact on Manipur.

The Nagaland government has issued a notification stating enumeration would be held for the Garo, Kuki, Kachari and Mikir people who settled in Kohima district before December 1, 1963.

The notification states the cut-off date for Nepalis/Gorkhas is December 31, 1940.
