This was stated in a Raj Bhavan communique issued here on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, Dharun Kumar called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Thursday (June 28) and was apprised about the prevailing situation in the district.

The Governor handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the DC and asked him to hand over the same to Sepoy Tongkhongam, a 75-year-old non-pensioner soldier from Churachandpur district, whose house was burnt down in the disturbances last year.

The amount was given by Support Our Heroes (SOH), a Delhi-based NGO that has been providing help since 2017 to needy ex-soldiers and their families and Veer Naris/Widows.

The ethnic violence started its eruption in the Churachandpur district between the Kukis and Meities on May 3, 2023, and over 7,000 houses were reduced to the ground.
